Wedding Wonder of the Week! Adore Photography
Happy Wednesday all! Today I have a cracker of a 'wonder' for you.......Mike from Adore Photography™. I first 'met' Mike in Twitterland and he's always been very supportive of my work, so I wanted to share some of his fantastic work with you!

Tell me a bit about yourself and your company.
Hello! My name is Mike Litchfield and I run
adore photography™. I studied photography and design 14 years ago. It was a
great education and enabled me to spend a lot of time in studios and in
darkrooms. Away from college I assisted various wedding and portrait
photographers in Nottingham and Derbyshire. But my career headed down the design
route, where I spent 10 years working as a graphic designer in studios and
agencies. The photography skills often helped, as I shot a lot of images for the
studio's clients. But 3 years ago the desire for self-employment proved too
strong, I left the design agency and set up adore photography™ and Litchy™ - for
graphic and web design services.

Are you married?

If no: do you have a secret wedding wish list?
-
No
I'm not married. No I can't believe it either (tongue firmly in cheek!), but the
only wish I have is that it is a nice and relaxed affair. Cheery, well designed
little touches and decorations around the place. But most importantly that my
bride, family and friends all have a good time. I know I will.

What attracted you to working in the wedding industry?
There are multiple reasons really. The biggest buzz, I
think, is providing a couple with images that they are delighted with. Images
that they feel have captured the spirit of their wedding, especially the bits
they may have missed themselves.

What is your favourite part of working with bride & grooms (to-be)?
You're in a very privileged position, close
to what's happening at a very important time in people's lives. I shoot mostly
reportage style; I hide myself in the background usually, so I can enjoy seeing
the emotions of the bride and groom and how they change throughout the day. It's
great to observe!

What is your most favourite wedding theme at the moment?
I love the vintage feel that some people
are going for at the moment. Either all the way, or just vintage influenced. It
makes for a nice relaxed atmosphere too.

Top wedding tip?
-
What do you think the next big wedding trends might be?
Good question! I tend to keep an eye on
what happens in the States, where I have a few contacts, as I feel that has a
big influence on trends over here. With the Jubilee happening and the way the
economy is, I think 'vintage' may become more 'mainstream'. But I just think
that weddings are becoming more of a personal experience and a reflection of the
bride and groom's personalities. That’s how I think it should be,
really.

What are your plans for the future?
To
keep building both businesses and possibly move into a few other areas. I think
there are numerous possibilities for adore photography™, including taking on
more photographers and offering other wedding services, whilst maintaining my
own vision. I'm always interested in hearing people's views and suggestions, so
if your readers have any I would love to hear them.
Immediate future plans are getting out into
this sunshine though!

Wedding Wonder of the Week: James Russell Photography
A sunny good morning all!
I'm super excited to be sharing this week's "Wedding Wonder of the Week" with you, may I introduce James Russell who is (in my opinion) one of the best photographers around. We chose James to be our wedding photographer back in 2009 as I totally connected with his work and loved the way he used angles, perspective and a mix or formal and informal to capture the most fabulous images. I was 100% sure James would give us the best photos from our special day - and oh boy we were NOT disappointed.

- Tell me a bit about yourself and your company.

I live in Macclesfield with Lindsey my wonderful wife and marketing guru of James Russell Photography. I just love taking photos for a living and when I’m not working for someone else I’m usually taking shots for myself or tinkering in Photoshop. It all stemmed from a love of art and a trip to Hong Kong where I put down the paint brush and picked up a camera – I’ve never looked back.
What else? Well I’m trying to get back into cycling after years of laying off. It’s hurting but good fun.
- I know you're married to the lovely Lindsey, but will you share some of your details?
We’ve been married 16 years and it’s gone in a flash. We got married at the tiniest of churches at Marthall, just outside Knutsford, followed by a bash at Mere Golf and Country Club - a wonderful day full of great memories. I still enjoy looking back at our wedding photos. Initially we lived in the wilds of Accrington in Lancashire but soon moved to Macclesfield which we love.
- What attracted you to working in the wedding industry?
I love all the different genres of photography, but wedding photography is special. There’s only one chance to get it right and that keeps me on my toes. It’s the biggest family occasion of anyone’s life, probably one of the few times all your family and friends will be together at the same time. Big occasions need photographing and it’s a real honour to be asked to record such a momentous day.
- What is your favourite part of working with bride & grooms (to-be)?
It’s a real pleasure to be involved in any wedding. For the first couple of hours of their married life the bride and groom see more of me than anyone else. It’s a great joy to share their happiness and make sure I capture those memories, so they can return to them time and time again when they look at their photos.
- What is your most favourite wedding theme at the moment?
I love a winter wedding and if you get snow and crisp sunlight, it’s perfect!
- Top wedding tip?
Plan things well but don’t worry too much about all the details; go with the flow and enjoy the day.
- What do you think the next big wedding trends might be?
There has been a general progression away from formal posed shots to a more natural style over the last few years. I hope this continues and develops more; I like photographing people how they are and being themselves. Storybook albums are becoming very popular and I’ve now added these to my repertoire, I love this method of displaying my photos to show how the day unfolds.

Wedding Wonder of the Week: Ice The Cake
I am very excited to be introducing my very first Wedding Wonder of the Week; Sue Page from Ice The Cake. Not only does Sue have a great company (which continues to go from strength to strength) but she is a real gem of a girl and I am thrilled she has agreed to be my first Wedding Wonder!
- Tell me a bit about yourself and Ice The Cake.
Ice The Cake is a new, exciting wedding consultancy offering every ingredient for the perfect wedding. I launched the company earlier this year after being inspired by my own wedding and our first event, a interactive wedding fayre in June, was a huge success. The wedding industry is full of talented and creative small businesses who are more than capable of competing with the high street giants and we spend our time searching for them across the UK

- Are you married?
Yes. I got married to my lovely husband at Woburn Abbey last Christmas in the snow and it was magical.

- What attracted you to working in the wedding industry?
I have been in the industry for a while working as a Bridal Make-up Artist but after our wedding I had the idea to start Ice the Cake and I haven’t looked back. I love that you are involved in making a Bride and Grooms dreams come true.
- What is your favourite part of working with bride & grooms (to-be)?
Nothing beats meeting Brides to be and sharing in their excitement. You are helping them to find perfect elements to make their day completely personal and will create lifetime memories.
- What is your most favourite wedding theme at the moment?
Like so many at the moment I love Vintage ~ afternoon tea, ice-creams, bunting and lots of pastels. I think it is because it can be so versatile and is beautiful on any budget. As an almost opposite I absolutely adore the Gothic style and found a lady who made the most amazing leather flowers when researching for my wedding. Ooh leather flowers now there's a thing....I must 'Google' that!
- Top wedding tip?
Top Tip in the build up to the wedding - Become a Member of the Ice the Cake Club and let us help you to complete your perfect day.
Top tip for on the day itself - take some time out to be alone with your new husband/wife. If you don’t plan it the day will fly by and you will hardly see each other. Many couples have the car journey from the church to the reception venue. However, as we got married in one location we didn’t have that opportunity. Instead we opted for a ‘sweetheart’ table during the wedding breakfast (this is where the married couple sit on their own and the rest of the wedding party head up their own tables). It worked brilliantly for us because we were still close enough to chat to our guests but we also had the opportunity to sit calmly and talk to each other. A great top tip - and a 'sweetheart' table oh how romantic, I love it!
- What do you think the next big wedding trends might be?
I can see the Retro themes making a big statement. Rock n Roll and carnival themes with mini fish and chips in paper cones, candy floss, and lots of vibrant colours.
Since the Royal Wedding many Brides have opted for their Bridesmaids to be in ivory the same as Pippa Middleton, however another favourite of mine is having bridesmaids in different colours. It can be as extreme as entire outfits or something as simple as different coloured shoes.
I also absolutely love ‘side tiaras’ they are stunning and I think they will become even more popular as time goes by.
As we are also heading towards end of year planning my personal favourite of Winter Wonderland has to be a prominent trend too.
