A
big sparkly hello and welcome to my blog! I design and make Wedding Stationery www.katelewisdesign.co.uk
My blog is a little bit 'higgledypiggledy' (and no doubt full of spelling mistakes) but I see this as my digital sketchbook - disorganised, but a little bit special! Within my blog there is a lot of wedding loveliness and plenty of fabulous things & people that I love!
I hope you enjoy my ramblings.......love Kate x

Wedding Wonder of the Week: Sweet Days and Roses

Hello!
This week's "wonder" is a complete pleasure to introduce to you.......Janey from Sweet Days and Roses. I first met Janey at a Wedding Fayre at Capesthorne Hall and was mesmerised by her beautiful stand. If you like flowers, vintage or anything exquisitely elegant then you will immediately fall in love with Janey's work.

  • Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

My name is Janey Butler and my company is SDAR (Sweet Days and Roses) where I design and plan beautiful weddings.
The lovely Janey

I live in beautiful North Wales in a small holding with my wonderful husband Andy and cat River. I just love my garden and especially wild flowers and roses, these are my all time favourites. I also love antiques and rumbling through junk shops for gorgeous finds...which I often incorporate into my wedding designs.

I am a stickler for attention to detail and for my weddings to be not only beautiful but totally unique.
How gorgeous are these roses?
I created Sweet Days and Roses through my love of all things that are vintage, rare, beautiful, and unique. Sweet Days and Roses is  a bespoke wedding design and planning company specialising in creating beautifully stylish and elegant weddings.  My philosophy is all about creating weddings that are not only visually stunning, but also unique and one of a kind.

  • Are you married, and if so; will you share some of your details?
I am married to my wonderful husband Andy and we got married 3 years ago at Babington House in Somerset. Babington House is beautiful and we had the most amazing wedding day. Everywhere was  filled with gorgeous roses, blush pink peonies and we got married in the gorgeous 15th century church which is right near to the main Georgian House. The sun shone and we had the most fabulous day.

I also adored my beautiful wedding dress which was a Sharon Bowen Couture gown that I had especially made.I also made all of the lovely ladies favours out of vintage linen, lace and old mother of pearl buttons with faux velvet roses sewn on.
I LOVE this dress!
We both had the most beautiful, happy day & the sun shone which was a blessing.

  • What attracted you to working in the wedding industry?
After planning and designing our own wedding so many people said that it was the most beautiful wedding day they had ever been to and that I should go into wedding design and planning....so this is where SDAR was born.

  • What is your favourite part of working with bride & grooms (to-be)?
Seeing them see all of their idea’s and thoughts coming together. Often couples know what they want but often they cant quite put it all together and see it in their minds...this is where I come in and I can put it all together for them and seeing them see it for the first time is wonderful.
The wedding day itself however has to be my most favourite part of working with them, as seeing them see their day all set up for the first time is simply wonderful and to see them happy makes me so very happy and love my work even more.

  • What is your most favourite wedding theme at the moment?
I do love the whole genuine vintage theme at the moment and the elements of using wild flowers and natural products within weddings.

I love the use of English cottage garden flowers within my designs as well as vintage urns, tea cups filled with pretty flowers & gorgeous chandeliers among other gorgeous items.

  • Top wedding tip?
Enjoy everyday leading up to your wedding as this is so important and actually is part of your big day. On the day, take a little time to wander off just the pair of you and look back on your special day as you will remember doing this and it will be a special memory for you both.

  • What do you think the next big wedding trends might be?
I hope that the more natural vintage beautiful wedding trend continues ..... I just adore and love this look and it is timeless and classic so I am sure it will never go out of date.

  • Where can we find your fabulous company?
SDAR is based in Cheshire and we cover the whole of the UK.
You can also find Sweet Days and Roses on Twitter and Facebook, Janey's Facebook page is always full of beautiful photos - worth a look!

  • What are your plans for the future?
To continue to design and plan beautiful weddings with gorgeous unique detailing ....something that is an important factor with my SDAR weddings. I am also looking at styling and designing for interiors as I get asked to do this on a frequent basis so this is something I am also looking at adding onto SDAR portfolio for the future.

I'd like to thank Janey for sharing all of this with us, I'm sure you'll agree Janey's work is indeed wonderful, and is very deserved of Wedding Wonder of the Week.
If this is the look you want for your wedding you MUST speak to Janey, she will provide it (with bells on) and to top it off she is one of the loveliest girls in the wedding industry.
I'm excited to see some of Janey's interior design work.......a new feature for the future hopefully!

Thank you again Janey x x

Wedding Wonder of the Week: Ice The Cake

I am very excited to be introducing my very first Wedding Wonder of the Week; Sue Page from Ice The Cake. Not only does Sue have a great company (which continues to go from strength to strength) but she is a real gem of a girl and I am thrilled she has agreed to be my first Wedding Wonder!

  • Tell me a bit about yourself and Ice The Cake.
Ice The Cake is a new, exciting wedding consultancy offering every ingredient for the perfect wedding. I launched the company earlier this year after being inspired by my own wedding and our first event, a interactive wedding fayre in June, was a huge success.  The wedding industry is full of talented and creative small businesses who are more than capable of competing with the high street giants and we spend our time searching for them across the UK.  I am always looking for new and unique ideas and products for engaged couples to be able to incorporate in their days.

  • Are you married?
Yes.  I got married to my lovely husband at Woburn Abbey last Christmas in the snow and it was magical.

The gorgeous Sue on her wedding day
Looks like a perfect winter wedding!

  • What attracted you to working in the wedding industry?
I have been in the industry for a while working as a Bridal Make-up Artist but after our wedding I had the idea to start Ice the Cake and I haven’t looked back.  I love that you are involved in making a Bride and Grooms dreams come true.

  • What is your favourite part of working with bride & grooms (to-be)?
Nothing beats meeting Brides to be and sharing in their excitement.  You are helping them to find perfect elements to make their day completely personal and will create lifetime memories.

  • What is your most favourite wedding theme at the moment?
Like so many at the moment I love Vintage ~ afternoon tea, ice-creams, bunting and lots of pastels.  I think it is because it can be so versatile and is beautiful on any budget.  As an almost opposite I absolutely adore the Gothic style and found a lady who made the most amazing leather flowers when researching for my wedding. Ooh leather flowers now there's a thing....I must 'Google' that!

  • Top wedding tip?
Top Tip in the build up to the wedding - Become a Member of the Ice the Cake Club and let us help you to complete your perfect day.

Top tip for on the day itself - take some time out to be alone with your new husband/wife.  If you don’t plan it the day will fly by and you will hardly see each other.  Many couples have the car journey from the church to the reception venue.  However, as we got married in one location we didn’t have that opportunity.  Instead we opted for a ‘sweetheart’ table during the wedding breakfast (this is where the married couple sit on their own and the rest of the wedding party head up their own tables).  It worked brilliantly for us because we were still close enough to chat to our guests but we also had the opportunity to sit calmly and talk to each other. A great top tip - and a 'sweetheart' table oh how romantic, I love it!

  • What do you think the next big wedding trends might be?
I can see the Retro themes making a big statement.  Rock n Roll and carnival themes with mini fish and chips in paper cones, candy floss, and lots of vibrant colours.

Since the Royal Wedding many Brides have opted for their Bridesmaids to be in ivory the same as Pippa Middleton, however another favourite of mine is having bridesmaids in different colours.  It can be as extreme as entire outfits or something as simple as different coloured shoes.

I also absolutely love ‘side tiaras’ they are stunning and I think they will become even more popular as time goes by.

As we are also heading towards end of year planning my personal favourite of Winter Wonderland has to be a prominent trend too.
